For this homage to Paul Claval, I hesitated between real and metaphorical space. I finally chose the latter. In keeping with the division of our responsibilities on the Political Geography Committee of the International Political Science Association, I thought it appropriate that to be more political than geographical and bring to this volume the theory that emerges from the study of the spill over of the perception of real space onto political ideology.
